This museum was established in October 1991 on a hill near Akashi Station, overlooking the Akashi Strait. It provides a regular exhibition featuring Akashi’s history and culture under eight themes focusing on the surrounding natural environment and people’s lives. It also holds special exhibitions and a variety of workshops from time to time, on activities such as eco-bag making. Furthermore, some volunteers offer hands-on experiences, such as Junihitoe robe or Yoroi armor wearing and Saori textile weaving.
