At Kansai International Airport, which opened in 1994, the first-ever large-scale renovation project is currently underway. As part of the initial phase, the new Domestic Terminal Area opened in October 2022. The security inspection areas, previously located in two separate places, have been consolidated into one, featuring six smart lanes capable of efficiently inspecting a large number of baggage simultaneously, creating a smoother and more intuitive departure process. In the post-security inspection area, six new establishments have opened, including eateries with a distinctive Kansai flavor and retail stores offering popular souvenirs from the entire Kansai region. This space allows travelers to enjoy their time at the airport right up until their departure.

On the 2nd floor, just down from the exit of the departure inspection area, 27 new stores, including duty-free shops and restaurants, have opened. The new comprehensive duty-free shop, 'KIX DUTY FREE,' is one of the largest walkthrough duty-free shops at Japanese international airports. It is strategically located along the pathway to the boarding gates for customers who have completed departure inspection. To ensure an enjoyable shopping experience for both Japanese and international customers, the store offers a diverse range of brands from both domestic and international markets, boasting a rich and varied product lineup.
