A cultural tourism facility that seeks to impart the appeal of Sakai’s history and culture to the world through the lives and characters of the Sakai born master of tea Sen no Rikyu, and the poet and pioneer of Japanese modern literature Akiko Yosano.
Here you will find the “Sen no Rikyu Tea Hall,” revealing the history and culture of Sen no Rikyu (1522-1591) and the tea ceremony, the “Akiko Yosano Memorial Hall” where you can touch upon the works of the poet Akiko Yosano (1878-1942) and her life, and the “Sightseeing Guide Exhibition” that acts as a base for sightseeing in Sakai.
The “Tea Ceremony Experience Facility,” facing on the site of Sen no Rikyu's House that has such a strong connection to Senge tea ceremony, you can enjoy tea and confections served in all three of the Senge tea ceremony forms while sitting in a chair, as well as experiencing pouring tea for yourself under the instruction of tea ceremony practitioners.
You will also find the “Sakai Taian,” a recreation of the “Taian” national treasure tea room, the only tea room remaining created by Sen no Rikyu. You can not only take in the outside but also go inside.
